Dr. Batson, Chiropractor in Willowbrook: Treating Plantar Fasciitis Naturally

Picture
Plantar Fasciitis is the inflammation of the plantar fascia, which is the fibrous tissue on the bottom of the foot connecting the heel bone to the toes. Plantar Fasciitis can and does cause severe heel and foot pain. Plantar Fasciitis is commonly associated with severe heel pain with the initiation of walking after rising from bed or a seated position. Individuals with Plantar Fasciitis classically have to walk on their toes for the first several steps to avoid pressure to the heel. Once activity has begun the pain usually is reduced.

Plantar Fasciitis can be caused by trauma, athletic activities, repetitive activities and also poor foot biomechanics: such as foot pronation or flat feet. Dr. Glen Batson, of Batson Chiropractic of Willowbook, successfully treats Plantar Fasciitis by using Chiropractic Manual Manipulation of the foot and ankle joints, K-Laser Therapy, and Foot Levelers custom foot orthotic devices.

The foot and ankle consists of 26 separate bones, encompassing 33 joints with many muscles, tendons, and ligaments allowing proper bio-mechanical function and support. Dr. Batson can perform an examination to evaluation the function and integrity of these bones, joints, and soft tissue structures. Dr. Batson can perform manipulation of these bones to restore proper joint function and biomechanical integrity. K-Laser Therapy is a Class IV Laser Therapy utilizing red and near-infrared wavelengths of light energy to induce a photochemical and therapeutic effect, Photo-Biomodulation, on the tissues of the heel and plantar fascia. This therapy conservatively and naturally reduces the inflammation of the plantar fascia and osseous structures of the foot and therefore reduces the pain. Dr. Batson utilizes custom orthotic foot appliances, shoe inserts, for support and proper function of the foot to reduce irritation of the plantar fascia.

Dr. Batson can be reached for consultation at his Willowbrook Illinois office. Dr. Batson treats patients of many surrounding communities inlcuding Hinsdale, Darien, Oakbrook, Downers Grove, Westchester, Westmont, Willow Springs, Burr Ridge, Lemont, and Chicagoland regions.

Picture
Dr. Batson, at Batson Chiropractic, is utilizing the K-Laser Cube 4, a state-of-the-art, Class IV therapeutic laser which delivers specific red and near-infrared wavelengths of light to induce a photochemical and therapeutic effect on tissues. Light energy passes through the skin into the cell membranes, initiating a process called Photobiomodulation. Physiological effects include increased circulation, reduction of inflammation, reduction of pain, reduction of swelling, and enhanced tissue healing. Laser Therapy has been utilized in Europe since the 1970s and received clearance by the United States Food and Drug Administration in 2005.

Therapeutic Laser Effects: During each PAINLESS treatment session, laser energy applied to the specific body region increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.

Benefits of K-Laser Class IV Laser Therapy is proven to bio-stimulate tissue repair and growth. The
K-Laser accelerates the healing process by decreasing inflammation, pain, and scar tissue formation.

Class IV K-Laser Therapy can provide dramatic results for the management of chronic and acute pain associated with:

SPRING IS HERE.....REVIEW OF PROPER LIFTING PROCEDURES

                                                                             PROPER LIFTING ERGONOMICS

There are many opinions on proper lifting techniques. Lifting stress is not just isolated to the lower back but encompasses multiple body structures. When lifting an object from the floor, we always associate proper lifting as bending at the knees, never twisting, keeping object as close to our torso as possible to avoid stress to the lower back. However, the most important aspect to proper lifting is to NEVER LOOK DOWN. Head and neck posture is critical!!!

When lifting, our lower back is stressed, but in fact does not perform the actual lifting activity. The true aspect of lifting takes place in the lower cervical spine, upper thoracic spine, and shoulders girdles. Improper ergonomics of these body parts when lifting then places undo stress to the lower back regions with the resulting lower back injury.

The Olympic weight lifter is able to lift the excessive weight because he presents on stage, places himself in the appropriate lifting position, however, upon initiation of the lifting activity he cocks his head back (looking up), and therefore stabilizes and strengthens his cervical spine muscles and ligaments as well as stabilizes and strengthens the muscles and ligaments of the lumbosacral region allowing him to perform the lifting activity. The action of looking up and locking the head in the hyper-extended position allows him to bend his knees, squat, lift the weight with an extremely strong lower back. By locking the spine as discussed above we are placing the cervical and lumbar vertebra in a normal lordotic C shaped curvature, allowing proper stress distribution to the spinal disc material and joints of the vertebra. If the weight lifter were to look down at the object he would/could sustain a very serious spine injury because he has changed the biomechanical load on the disc material and spinal joints.

It is my opinion that injury can encompass both the lumbosacral region but the cervical spine, upper thoracic, and shoulder girdles as well. By locking the spine as discussed above we are placing the vertebra in a normal lordotic curvature, allowing proper stress distribution to the spinal disc material and joints of the vertebra allowing lifting without injury.

So……The Keys to Proper Lifting:

·        NEVER LOOK DOWN. Always cock the head back and lock the cervical spine into the hyper-extension position thereby strengthening the cervical, thoracic and shoulder girdles, and ultimately strengthening the lumbosacral region.
·        Bend at the knees
·        Never twist or rotate at the waist when lifting
·        Keep objects as close to the torso as possible
·        Be aware/familiar with the object to be lifted

FOOT and ANKLE PAIN

4/8/2023

Dr. Batson is a Palmer College of Chiropractic Graduate. In his training, Dr. Batson believes that the body is made up of body systems and various body biomechanical functions. In so saying, the biomechanics of one body part can and does affect other body parts and their specific functions and systems.
Dr. Batson believes that the foundation of our bodies starts at the foot and ankle which is a strategic weight bearing joint. The biomechanical function or dysfunction of the foot and ankle directly affects the kinetic chain of the lower extremity and ultimately the hips and lumbosacral/pelvic regions and even the spine. Any type of distortion of this biomechanical function/posture can have adverse effects to the remaining joints, spine, and torso with a cascade of symptomatic complications.
Upon examination and determination of the foot or ankle dysfunction, Dr. Batson utilizes chiropractic manual manipulation to restore function to the foot or ankle, K-Laser Therapy for reduction of pain and inflammation. Dr. Batson then utilizes Foot Levelers custom orthotic appliances for the restoration and proper support of foot/ankle function.
Foot Levelers custom orthotic appliances are custom manufactured and casted to your specific foot. Foot Levelers products supply a three arch system of foot support encompassing a medial arch support, lateral arch support and a metatarsal support for proper arching and bridging of the foot and metatarsal bones. This system provides a balanced symmetrical foundation for the foot and ankle helping to reduce pain and increase the comfort level of wearing foot orthotic appliances. By providing a balanced foot and ankle foundation the Foot Levelers orthotic supplies protection and support throughout all phases of gait.
Many times lower back, hip, and knee pain may be caused by or associated with foot/ankle dysfunction. Dr. Batson is conveniently located in Willowbrook, Il, and is available to assist you with your specific foot/ankle or spinal concerns and dysfunction.

Dr. Glen Batson is a Doctor of Chiropractic who received his degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1988. Dr. Batson treats patients of all ages and with various health issues. He specializes in the use of fluoroscopy (motion X-ray imaging) and infra-red thermography, enabling Dr. Batson to obtain a more specific analysis of a patient’s health condition to achieve better and quicker results. The treatment performed by Dr. Batson consists of specific hands on, gentle, non-twisting spinal manipulation and procedures using drop tables and percussor devices for specific correction of spinal subluxation (joint misalignment), restoration of joint function, and the relief of associated soft tissue symptomatology.

                                                                        LUMBAR DECOMPRESSION THERAPY
Dr. Batson has incorporated LORDEX DECOMPRESSION THERAPY and STRENTH RESTORATION THERAPY into his therapeutic regiment for the treatment of lower back pain, sciatic pain, disc herniations, and stenosis. These procedures have proven to be beneficial for many people suffering with acute and or chronic back pain.
Lumbar Decompression Therapy has been prescribed and utilized as an active non-surgical treatment for over thirty five years for patients with herniated disc’s, degenerative joint disease, facet arthrosis, sciatica, disc bulge, and spinal stenosis to relieve PAIN.
The total gravitational load force of our upper torso is placed on the lumbar spine. The activity of sitting, standing, bending, and lifting causes altered spinal vertebral joint function and increased load and pressure in the lumbar discs, joints, and surrounding soft tissue pain points. Lumbar decompression therapy targets the specific pain producing areas of the spine including intervertebral disc, nerve roots, and bone structures that are undergoing abnormal pressure or dysfunction. Through repetitive gentle mechanical distraction of the specific lumbar spinal segments, consisting of predetermined gentle pulls, holds, and releases, spinal decompression forces produce a negative intra-discal pressure drawing the disc material, fluids and nutrients back into the disc space thereby restoring function and relieving Pain.
Because disc herniations are the result of mechanical instability and dis-use atrophy, simultaneous para-spinal strengthening in conjunction to Lumbar Decompression Therapy restores lumbar para-muscular strength and stability necessary to obtain normal functional capability of the lumbar spine.
Patients will be thoroughly screened and accepted as candidates for this procedure which typically requires 20 to 30 sessions of therapy. Each patient will be given a course of treatment specific for their individual specific spinal needs with each lumbar decompression therapy session consisting of a 30 minute therapeutic treatment session. The treatment is gentle, non-twisting, and designed for restoration of joint and intervertebral disc function and relief of Pain.
Dr. Batson utilized the Lordex Lumbar Spine System for the therapeutic treatment of the Lumbar dysfunction and PAIN and Strength Restoration Therapy for stabilization and strengthening of the lumbar para-spinal musculature.
