DR. BATSON TREATING DISC HERNIATION AND ASSOCIATED PAIN AND SPINE DYSFUNCTION

Herniated Disc: aka: “Slipped Disc”
A Vertebral Disc is the cartilaginous material between adjacent spinal vertebrae (spinal bones) and acts as a shock absorbing cushion to facilitate proper biomechanical joint function and reduce friction. The disc also acts as a spacer between adjacent vertebrae to allow the spinal nerve roots to exit the spine via the vertebral foramen and supply nerve energy to various aspects of the body.
A disc can herniate (bulge or rupture) due to injury, repetitive stress, posture and weight gain, aging, and/or a vertebral subluxation. A vertebral subluxation is the partial dislocation of one vertebra in relation to another causing altered biomechanical joint function which can then cause altered stress to the disc and thus disc degeneration, disc bulge, herniation, or rupture.
Disc Herniation can be associated with:
  • Neck or Lower Back pain
  • Radicular pain to the upper or lower extremities
  • Arm or leg weakness, tingling, and numbness
  • Headaches
  • Pain ranging from dull to sharp
  • Muscle spasm and stiffness
Dr. Batson treats conditions of disc herniation through proper analysis; very specific chiropractic spinal manipulation techniques (Pierce Technique); K-Laser Therapy for reduction of inflammation and pain and improvement in circulation of nutrients for acceleration of healing; Lordex Lumbar Decompression Therapy for rehabilitation of the lumbar disc and surrounding structures for decompression of the spine and/or spinal nerve roots; and home exercise.
Dr. Batson is a 1988 Palmer College of Chiropractic Graduate, practicing in a solo practice for over thirty four years. Dr. Batson utilizes the PIERCE RESULTS SYSTEM of spinal analysis and treatment consisting of utilizing Examination, X-ray analysis with Video-Fluoroscopy (motion X-Ray imaging), very specific chiropractic manipulation techniques (No Twisting, Snapping, or Popping),  Lordex Lumbar Decompression Therapy, and the K-Laser therapy. Gout is a hereditary metabolic disease and is in the family of acute arthritic conditions which causes inflammation of joints. Gout is usually associated with the big toe, but can be found in various joints throughout the body. Gout is characterized by redness, swelling, tenderness, and severe pain and stiffness of a joint. Gout is caused by the over-abundance of uric acid in the blood stream which can cause the formation of sharp needle like urate crystals in the joints and under the skin causing inflammation and pain associated with gout.

Dr. Batson of Willowbrook Il, utilizes K-Laser Class IV Therapy to treat the pain associated with gout. K-laser utilizes wavelengths of light energy to effectively reduce the inflammation and pain associated with gout. This process is known as Photobiomodulation, and is a safe and effective therapy for the treatment of Gout!!!

Photobiomodulation by the use of the Class IV K-Laser is obtained through the delivery of specific red and near red infrared wavelengths of laser light to induce a therapeutic effect with in the body. These include increased circulation, reduced swelling, reduction of pain and enhancement and acceleration of tissue repair.

The Temporomandibular Joint is a synovial condylar and hinge type joint acting as a sliding hinge joint connecting the mandible (jaw bone) to the skull. The temporomandibular joint is located on both sides of the skull just anterior to the ear. Irritation or disfunction of the TMJ know as Temporomandibular Disorder can occur unilaterally or bilaterally and can be associated with joint pain, jaw clicking, facial and jaw pain, headaches, difficulty chewing, jaw locking, and muscle soreness of the facial regions.

Causes of Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD), altered function of the temporomandibular joint, can be associates with stress, anxiety, injury, genetics, arthritic conditions, chronic grinding and clenching (Bruxism), as well as cervical spine dysfunction and cervical neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction. Imbalance in neurological and muscle function can cause imbalance and dysfunction of the Temporomandibular joints.
