With the advent of technology making our lives easier…there can be ramifications. Although the utilization of cell phones has made our lives easier, we are seeing many health related complications associated with the excessive use of these devices. Texting, the modern means of communication, is causing repetitive stress to the cervical spine (NECK), upper back and shoulder regions. The constant/ repetitive activity of looking down (cervical flexion) is causing abnormal posture and stress to the vertebral column (SPINE), and the ligaments and muscles of the neck and shoulders, causing neck pain and upper back pain, shoulder pain, headaches, sloughing posture with rounded shoulders, and fatigue.
Dr. Batson of Batson Chiropractic Clinic Willowbrook utilizes effective treatment for reduction of the symptoms of TEXT NECK. Dr. Batson utilizes education of proper spinal posture and ergonomics, specific spinal manipulation, K-Laser Class IV Laser Therapy, instruction in proper elevation of the cell phone device, correction of posture by sitting/standing up straight, and exercise for the reduction of symptoms and structural deficits associated and caused by the repetitive activities of TEXTING!!.

Maintaining proper spinal posture is essential to maintaining good health. The Cervical Spine, commonly called the Neck, is made up of seven bones called vertebra. Each of these vertebra functions independently of each other but as a whole make up our Cervical Spine or Neck. The Cervical spine should have a normal anterior convex curve allowing the spinal cord to travel from the brain downward through the spinal canal passing each vertebra. Spinal nerve roots originating from spinal cord exit the spine between each vertebra to carry the Life Force of Nerve Energy to each cell. Through external forces described above we could experience loss of function to a vertebra; termed a Subluxation. The loss of joint function can lead to a cascade of problems such as: specific joint irritation, disc bulge /herniation, pinched nerve, edema and muscle spasms, causing the symptoms of: Neck Pain, Headaches, Arm Numbness Tingling or Pain.
Dr. Glen Batson of Batson Chiropractic Willowbrook, utilizes very specific, gentle, non-twisting Chiropractic procedures taught through Palmer College of Chiropractic and The Pierce Technique to restore joint function and correction of posture. Dr. Batson utilizes drop table techniques and percussor technology to perform these very specific adjustment techniques to accomplish the task of restoring the cervical curve and the head position over the shoulders: Proper Posture.
