Herniated Disc: aka: “Slipped Disc”
A vertebral disc is the cartilaginous material between adjacent spinal vertebrae (spinal bones) and acts as a shock absorbing cushion to facilitate proper biomechanical joint function and reduce friction. The disc also acts as a spacer between adjacent vertebrae to allow the spinal nerve roots to exit the spine and supply nerve energy to various aspects of the body. A disc can herniate (bulge or rupture) due to injury, repetitive stress, posture and weight gain, aging, and/or a vertebral subluxation. A vertebral subluxation is the partial dislocation of one vertebrae in relation to another causing altered biomechanical joint function which can then cause altered stress to the disc and thus disc degeneration, disc bulge, herniation, or rupture. Disc Herniation can be associated with:

Lateral Epicondylitis: aka Tennis Elbow.
Lateral Epicondylitis or “tennis elbow” is pain associated to the lateral or outside aspect of the elbow and has been associated with over use such as playing tennis. Repetitive motion and activities can cause irritation and stress to the muscles and tendons of the forearm which attach the muscle to the bone structures. The repetitive stress can even cause tears and inflammation to the region. Dr. Batson utilizes K-Laser Therapy, also known as “Photobiomodulation”, to the elbow region to increase circulation to the region, increase cellular function, reduce inflammation, reduce pain, increase healing, for the restoration of joint and soft tissue function. Chiropractic manipulation can also be applied for further restoration of joint function. Dr. Batson is a Palmer College of Chiropractic graduate, practicing in a solo practice for over twenty eight years. Dr. Batson utilizes the PIERCE RESULTS SYSTEM of spinal analysis and treatment consisting of utilizing Examination, X-ray analysis with Video-Fluoroscopy (motion X-Ray imaging), very gentle and specific chiropractic manipulation techniques, lumbar decompression therapy, and the K-Laser therapy. Dr. Batson treats patients of Willowbrook and the surrounding communities of Darien, Burr Ridge, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Oakbrook, Claredon Hills, Westmont, and the Tri-State regions. Spinal Stenosis: causing Lower back and Leg Pain
Spinal stenosis is the term used to describe the narrowing of the spinal canal or intervertebral foramen, the openings between the vertebra which allow the spinal nerves to exit the spine. Spinal stenosis can be at any level of the spine but is usually associated with the cervical and lumbar spine. Spinal stenosis is resultant from injury, degenerative disc disease, arthritis, and possible a pathology causing the closing down of the spinal canal and intervertebral openings which can then cause irritation the spinal cord or nerve roots and manifests itself as pain and stiffness. People with lumbar spinal stenosis usually state they cannot stand up straight due to pain but find relief bending forward such as pushing a shopping cart. The position of bending forward further opens the spinal openings taking pressure off the nerves while standing up straight causes closing of the spinal openings and further nerve irritation: Pain!!! Dr. Batson treats patients with spinal stenosis utilizing specific chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy, K-Laser Therapy, Lordex Lumbar Decompression Therapy, and exercise. K-Laser Therapy, also known as “Photobiomodulation”, is used to increase circulation to the lumbar region and spinal nerve roots to reduce inflammation, improve healing, reduce pain and increase normal activities. K-Laser utilizes specific wavelengths of light energy (red and near-infrared) to create therapeutic effects at the cellular levels. Lordex lumbar decompression therapy can also be utilized for decompression of the lumbar disc and spinal nerve roots and rehabilitation of the lumbar disc and lumbar joint structures. Chiropractic spinal and pelvic manipulation is utilized for restoration of spinal and pelvic function for further reduction of pain and soft tissue irritation. Dr. Batson is a Palmer College of Chiropractic graduate, practicing in a solo practice for over twenty eight years. Dr. Batson utilizes the PIERCE RESULTS SYSTEM of spinal analysis and treatment consisting of utilizing Examination, X-ray analysis with Video-Fluoroscopy (motion X-Ray imaging), very specific and gentle chiropractic manipulation techniques, lumbar decompression therapy, and the K-Laser therapy. Dr. Batson treats patients of Willowbrook and the surrounding communities of Darien, Burr Ridge, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Oakbrook, Claredon Hills, Westmont, and many communities of the Tri-State regions. Medial Epicondylitis: aka: Golfers Elbow.
Medial Epicondylitis, also known as golfers elbow, is a painful condition to the medial or inside aspect of your elbow and is associated with repetitive or over use of the forearm muscles and tendons that attach the muscles to the boney structures of the elbow. Symptoms can consist of pain and tenderness of the inside bone structures of the elbow with pain and stiffness extending along the inner aspect of the forearm and possible numbness and tingling of the fingers. Medial epicondylitis is not isolated to the golfing industry but can affect anyone performing repetitive stress activities to the upper extremities. Dr. Batson utilizes K-Laser Therapy, also known as “Photobiomodulation”, to the elbow region to increase circulation to the region, increase cellular function, reduce inflammation, reduce pain, increase healing, and for the restoration of joint and soft tissue function. Chiropractic manipulation can also be applied to the elbow for further restoration of joint function. Heal spurs can be very painful and are the development of calcium deposits on the underside or posterior aspect of the heel bone called the calcaneus. Heel spurs are the result of underlying irritation and inflammation to the foot and or ankle and can be associated with Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendonitis. Dr. Batson treats heal spurs and the pain associated with heal spurs using chiropractic manual manipulation for correction of foot joint function, K-Laser Class IV Laser Therapy for the increase of circulation to the region, reduction of inflammation, reduction of pain and improvement in healing. Foot Levelers custom orthotics are also utilized as indicated for restoration of proper foot and ankle biomechanical function. Sciatic Pain: “Sciatica”
Sciatic pain, also known as Sciatica, is associated with severe and sometimes debilitating leg pain, with possible leg numbness, tingling and even weakness. Sciatica usually originates in the Lumbar spine and associated with injury, disc herniation’s, spinal or neuro-foraminal stenosis causing nerve impingement. The nerve impingement can cause burning/electric radiating pain from the lower back, through the buttock, and extending through the back of the leg, the Sciatic Nerve. Other causes of Sciatica could be degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, poor posture, and repetitive activities. Dr. Batson treats Sciatic pain through specific Chiropractic Spinal Manipulation of the spine, sacrum, and ilium for restoration of spinal and sacroiliac bio-mechanical function, reduction of pain, improvement in range of motion and reduction of soft tissue irritation. K-Lazer Therapy, also known as “Photobiomodulation”, is used to increase circulation to the lumbar region and spinal nerve roots to reduce inflammation, improve healing, reduce pain and increase normal activities.
